Jim Stone, M.A., taught all of the elementary grades during his thirty year teaching career. His teaching experience includes 13 years as a first-grade teacher and 8 years teaching kindergarten. As a teacher/researcher, Jim spent more than 30 years using research in language development, reading research, and brain research to develop Animated-Literacy™, an approach to beginning reading and writing instruction that incorporates literature, storytelling, songs, gestures for sounds, drawing and labeling lessons, and manipulatives. He served three terms as a mentor teacher in kindergarten through second-grade in San Diego City Schools. Jim has presented over 500 workshops in 27 states in the United States and 8 provinces and territories in Canada.
Jim lives in San Diego with his wife Judy. During her 33 year teaching career, Judy Stone taught 2 years of kindergarten, 23 years of first grade, and 8 years of second grade. Jim and Judy have a daughter, Kim, who is a speech pathologist in San Diego specializing in work with preschool and school-age children with language delays including those with autism.
