Dr. Wendy Donnell used the vowel characters and gestures from Animated-Literacy™ in a controlled study involving 450 students for her doctoral dissertation entitled, “The Effects Of Multisensory Vowel Instruction For Third-Grade Students.” The study produced a statistically significant advantage in encoding, decoding, and rapid word recognition (fluency) for the group of students who received the multisensory vowel instruction. Dr. Donnell was awarded the “International Reading Association Outstanding Dissertation Award For 2007” for her research.
